Some of the services below are available only to the Maharishi University of Management community. When dialing from a campus extension, dial '9' before phoning an off-campus phone number as in the examples below:

Emergency

Ambulance: telephone 9-911 (from campus) or 911 (from off-campus). Twenty-four hour ambulance service is available in Fairfield. When calling for an ambulance in an emergency, please state the location and the problem at hand. The ambulance drivers will arrive quickly with the appropriate equipment if the situation has been properly described. Please stay on the line until the emergency operator tells you to hang up.

Other emergencies: call Campus Safety, ext. 1115 (from campus) or 472–1115 (from off-campus) for ambulance and paramedics.

Campus Nurse

The Campus Nurse offers first aid and initial screening of health concerns. Please drop by her office in the afternoon, or call, for advice on minor medical concerns, and assistance in obtaining medical care.

The nurse is available from 1:15 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday in the Dreier Building, room, 236, at ext. 3411 (472–7000 ext. 3411). In emergencies, Campus Safety at ext. 1115 (472-1115) can contact the Campus Nurse.

Campus Counselors

This service provides short-term support (up to 3-5 sessions free of charge) for any University student. It is completely confidential and includes help with problem-solving, communications skills, time management, and personal issues regarding campus life. Call 472-5771 for an appointment Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield, IA

Jefferson County Hospital is located at 400 Highland Avenue in the southeast section of Fairfield. Phone number is 472–4111. Services include emergency room, X-ray, maternity, many surgical procedures, and in/out-patient programs.

For non-emergencies it is best to call your doctor or one of the doctors in town to see if they can see you immediately. Many medical conditions can be treated at the doctor’s office. Even if you don’t have a doctor, you can often get an urgent appointment with a doctor on the day you call.

Jefferson County Courtesy Van

The Jefferson County Hospital Foundation offers a courtesy van service to transport local residents to their doctor and dentist appointments and also transportation to pick up medication. The service operates from 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday, and can take you to and from your appointment in town or to Maharishi Vedic City.

The driver, John Barnett, appreciates receiving notice the day before your scheduled appointment but last minute rides are usually possible. To schedule a ride please call 472-4115. The fee for this service is $1.00 each way, and $2.00 each way, to and from Vedic City. There is a $1.00 additional charge for each stop, e.g., the pharmacy. Schedule in advance if possible.
