Eli Tesfaye

Eli Tesfaye
In my last year of the MBA program (2005), I was offered a job with Iowa Progressive Asset Management (IPAM), an investment advisory firm, after completing an internship with the firm. Currently, I am an NASD licensed investment advisor in securities through IPAM.

I also trade commodities as an NFA-licensed broker of Crown Futures Corporation, sister company to IPAM. It’s a great match for me because it allows me to integrate what I learned at Maharishi University about financial performance and social responsibility.

I can build truly diversified portfolios of both traditional and alternative investments. I’m a member of Progressive Asset Management — a nationwide group of socially responsible investment advisors.

I graduated with a BFA in Digital Media in the summer of 2005. After graduating I worked as designer and art director for a company called Portafolia for about six months. I’m currently working as a designer for an ad agency in Sydney, Australia.

The spirituality and knowledge I gained from M.U.M. gave me the strength and courage to explore life and the greater world. Life is good!

I graduated in the Spring 2005 with a BFA in Digital Media, and I’m now living in Santa Monica, right near the beach. I do free-lance web design work (portfolio http://bluesheepstudios.com). It’s been going very well.

I create websites mostly for small companies and individuals, but have some larger clients like Southern California Edison, and do sub-contract design work for several web development firms in Southern California. I also do work for a few Fairfield clients such as http://conferencecallsunlimited.com

My experience at M.U.M. continues to help shape my life. Without a regular, healthy routine — and the ability to release stress and maintain that inner peace and happiness — it would be very difficult living in the Los Angeles area. But as of now, I'm loving it!

Right after completing my MBA (June 2004), I became a marketing manager for Human Factors International (HFI), which does software usability consulting — in other words, we help companies design software and websites that are intuitive and easy-to-use, something everyone can relate to. Most of our consultants have Ph.D.’s or Master’s in cognitive psychology, ergonomics, instructional design, etc. They use techniques to understand how people think, learn, remember, and interact with computers, and then optimize the “user experience” through principles of good user interface design.

Since I'm in marketing, my focus is on the business side — building brand awareness, generating leads for the sales staff, writing marketing materials, hosting events and even producing live webcasts. Gaining this business experience has been wonderful — working with fantastic people from around the world, and getting to travel often. I’m also able to maintain a balanced schedule and lifestyle — no working late nights or weekends.

Ultimately, my goal is to start my own company and be a major benefactor for the University!

I graduated from M.U.M. in 2005 with a degree in Physiology and Health and am currently a Medical Research Assistant at Johns Hopkins University. I found that my knowledge in natural health care was valued by the medical community. Twenty minutes into my first job interview the supervisor interjected, “I have a stack of applications on my desk but I’d like to offer you the position right now.”

I’m a real estate agent focused on hotel sales in Baltimore, MD. I spend most of my day interacting with hotel buyers and sellers, and negotiating deals, which often requires persuading the buyer to come up in price and the seller to go down. It’s not for the faint-hearted, and there are few other women in this industry. I value my MUM education, where I attended both the undergrad and MBA program (graduated 2005), mostly for the confidence, stability, and self-knowledge it gave me.
