Dr. Hagelin Presents
at TED Conference
Dr. John Hagelin, professor of physics at Maharishi University of Management, spoke at the prestigious TED conference series last November in Washington, D.C. Dr. Hagelin was invited to speak at TEDxWomen after organizers of TED heard him talk at an education summit in New York City organized by the David Lynch Foundation.
TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a global set of conferences dedicated to spreading groundbreaking ideas. Speakers are handpicked from thousands of applicants and are given a maximum of 18 minutes to present their ideas in the most engaging way. A panel of judges also coaches presenters before they can speak at a TED conference.
Dr. Hagelin’s 10-minute talk covered the research on the Transcendental Meditation® program and its effects on health, education, and post-traumatic stress. 15,000 people watched the event live via webcast in special locations organized by TED across the world. “There was a tremendous coherent focus on what I had to say,” said Dr. Hagelin. “My talk really stood out because it focused on solutions and not just on the problems.”
Since the conference last November, several of TED’s organizers have learned the Transcendental Meditation technique and invited Dr. Hagelin to speak at another TED event to be held in April in Brazil.
TED conferences have a strong focus on scientific evidence. Dr. Hagelin said that TED is the best venue to spread the word about the benefits of the TM technique. “Normally you only get one shot at this,” he said. “But the organizers seem to realize that this is an important message and needs to be covered again and again, so I think these invitations are going to continue.”
Dr. Hagelin is the chair of the Physics Department at MUM and honorary chair of the Board of Trustees. He teaches the popular course Foundations of Physics and Consciousness every year at MUM. He is also national director of the Transcendental Meditation program.
