We use three tools to assess a student’s strengths, skills and interests:
- The Holland Self-directed Search: This is a respected career assessment based on six general personality categories in which students identify their interests and skills.
- The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator: This is a well-regarded personality inventory that is based on the work of Carl Jung. It gives useful insight into a person’s cognitive tendencies (not skills) according to eight different personality preferences, and serves as the basis for self-understanding and discovering (or confirming) a career that suits who you are.
- Functional Transferable Skills Survey: This is a survey of skills, such as verbal and non-verbal communication, leadership, administration, creativity and innovation, and financial acumen, etc. that you can acquire in a variety of ways during your life that can be of critical importance in a job. Knowing your skill strengths allows you to understand your qualifications for a job or career and how to highlight your strengths in a resume, cover letter or interview with a prospective employer, customer or collaborator.
